Fostering by Faith
Editor’s Note: In honor of National Foster Care Month, we are featuring stories from some of our foster families. If you’d like to learn more about the ways you can Be a Family to a child, please visit www.beafamily.org.
Fostering is by no means an easy calling to take on. It takes time, patience, grace and mercy. We not only share our homes and families, but also our hearts.
As with every challenging task God gives us, we can be sure and know that His strength is available for the job.
On top of being obedient to the calling of fostering on our lives, we can also take joy and pride in knowing that we are showing the world the side of faith that is rarely seen.
James 1:27 tells us, “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress, and refusing to let the world corrupt you.”
In a day and age when there are hundreds and thousands of religions to choose from, and at a time when Christianity is fighting to stay relevant in the sight of the world, know that you are doing your part to further the Kingdom of God.
You are the hands and feet of Jesus to these children. You are the servant offering a cup of cold water in the name of Christ. You are the guardian angel that these children need in the time of their distress.
So today may you take peace in knowing that you are being used by God to impact the world to come! Grace, peace, and mercy be found on your house today. God Bless!
The Press family has been with Buckner since 2009. They live in Midland, Texas, and have had 5 foster care placements since their licensure. They have obtained permanent managing conservatorship of one child, consummated the adoption of a teenager in April and are pursuing the adoption of another child.
Prayers of the Week:
-God, give us joy as we strive to be your hands and feet. Open our eyes to ways we can bless and serve our friends, family, neighbors and strangers.
-God, be with foster children in the United States and overseas. Give them a feeling of peace when they face the uncertainty and anxiety of adjusting to new homes and families.
