Take Nothing for Granted
One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible, and one that I need to be reminded of regularly, is Psalms 103:2: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.”It’s easy to overlook the “ordinary” and sometimes seemingly insignificant blessings that the Lord generously provides for us every day. One thing I know without a doubt: nothing God does is accidental or insignificant.
This was made so real to me one afternoon when a recently placed young girl and her foster mom came into the office to turn in paperwork. The girl noticed several boxes of new clothes that had been donated a few days prior. She hesitantly asked if she could look through them and was told, “Yes.”
She began to pull out tops, shorts, pajamas, and anything else that caught her eye and wasted no time in trying them on. After trying on each piece, she would step out into the hall twirling and dancing around and showing all of us her new outfits.
I don’t think she would have been any happier had she been in one of the finest dress shops in town. But what blessed me most of all was how genuinely appreciative she was as she took the time to thank all of us.
I had to ask myself, “Do I thank God as often as I should, or do I take too much for granted?” I still get tears in my eyes when I think of her and how she touched my heart that day.

Prayer of the Week:
-God, thank you for your many blessings, and help us to be mindful of all the ways you provide for us each and every day.
-God, open our eyes and hearts to those in need around us and give us the wisdom and opportunity to be a blessing to them.
