The Lord Will Provide
“So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, ‘On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.’” Genesis 22:14
A financial planner once asked me, “Have you ever had more month at the end of your money?” That seems to always be the case for me and my family. But not too long ago the Lord provided a lesson for my wife and I that I would like to share.
Due to my son’s skin disorder–ichthyosis–he needs certain lotions when the summer heat arrives. These lotions are pretty pricey and, of course, not covered by insurance. As my wife and I continued to look at the budget and crunch numbers to find the surplus needed to buy his lotions, the more anxious and stress-ridden we became. I decided to have my wife go ahead and order the prescriptions, hoping that I could try sweet-talking my way into getting the price reduced.
After a long conversation with the insurance company and the pharmaceutical company that went nowhere, I decided to pray. Isn’t that the way we work? When everything we try fails, then we pray. This is completely backwards to the way Christ-followers should approach life’s struggles. My wife and I were at our wits’ end. Were we going to buy food, or were we going to pay for the prescription lotions that my son desperately needed?
The day before the prescriptions were to be picked up, I went to check the mail. In my hand was a check from our medical insurance company–a reimbursement for an error in a previously paid bill. The check was exactly the amount needed to purchase my son’s lotions. “The Lord still provides for His children’s needs.”
Jehova Jireh means “the Lord provides,” and once again I was reminded that the God I serve is bigger than any mountainous financial struggle that this life can throw my way. As Christ-followers, let us pray, obey, and watch as he provides for our needs.
Don’t tell God how big your mountain is. Instead, try telling your mountain how big your God is.

Prayer of the Week:
-God, in seeking Jesus Christ may we will hear his voice and respond in obedience with anticipation for him to work in and through us for his glory.
- God, as we face difficult circumstances, remind us of the times you have faithfully provided for us and give us faith in your continued provision.
